George Foreman vs. Ron Lyle
January 24, 1976 (Caesars Palace Sports Pavilion, Las Vegas, Nevada)

Fifteen months after George Foreman lost his heavyweight titles to Muhammad Ali in the “Rumble in the Jungle” in 1974, he returned to active duty on January 24, 1976, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada, against quintessential tough guy Ron Lyle, in the RING Fight of the Year. “It’s one of the finest moments I ever had in boxing,” said Foreman. “The media had said so many bad things about me [after the Ali fight] and I kept trying to defend myself. What better way to defend yourself than to prevail in a fight like that? My God, I was in the fight of my life.” Foreman was 40-1. Lyle was 31-3-1. The fight was scheduled for 12 rounds.
